COMPUTER LITERACY TRAINING

📍 Why It Matters

While Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is widely recognized as a tool for development in emerging economies, rural communities in Nigeria still face a significant gap in digital literacy. Many young people grow up without access to basic computer training, leaving them unprepared for the demands of modern education, communication, and employment.

This gap exists largely due to limited access to computers, lack of trained facilitators, and the absence of structured digital education programs in underserved areas.

🌱 Our Response

🔑 Our Vision Through This Program

We believe that digital literacy is no longer optional, it is essential. By providing early access to technology education in rural communities, we are giving children the tools they need to learn, create, connect, and lead in their own lives and beyond.

The JF Community Centre Computer Literacy Program is designed to bridge this digital divide by equipping children in Dikenafai with foundational computer skills. We aim to spark curiosity, build digital confidence, and lay the groundwork for self-directed learning in a fast-evolving digital world.

The program introduces young learners to computers in a supportive, hands-on environment where they learn essential concepts, build problem-solving skills, and develop a positive attitude toward technology and its role in everyday life.

Our program is open to children aged 8 to 14 years. Classes run three times a week, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, providing consistent exposure and structured learning after school hours.

After completion of the course, participants should be able to:

1.     Understand common computing terminologies

2.     Understand the basic principles of operating computer systems

3.     Acquire basic knowledge in computer applications (Microsoft word, power point, publisher, excel, access and etc.)

4.     Make use of common application software packages to carry out simple tasks

5.     Be aware of social issues related to computer applications

6.     Appreciate the advancement brought about by the general use of computers in society.
